HONORING THE LIFE OF THE REMARKABLE EZINNE C.U. CHIME

BIOGRAPHY OF EZINNE C. U. CHIME OCTOBER 10, 1926 TO OCTOBER 6, 2025.

“Ezinne” “Nneoma” Comfort Uzoamaka Chime (nee Eze) was born in Egbu Owerri, Imo State on 10th October, 1926 as the first child to John Aneke Eze-Nwogene (Nwa-Ogbufu) and Susana Eze-Nwogene of Umuene Ward, Ekenene Village in Udi Town.
CU King as she was fondly called by her friends was very brilliant, studious and determined to excel in whatever she did. She is reputed to be the first female child in Udi Town to have studied up to, passed and got the Standard Six(Std 6) Educational Certificate. This feat was clearly attested to by her oral as well as written English. Her classic combination of these two qualities was very, very impressive indeed and at a time when the highest level of education allowed for the girl child before marriage was Standard 4. CU King was later trained at the Young Women Christian Association(Y.W.C.A) Training Centre in Ogidi Town in Anambra State as a seamstress as well as various aspects of Home Economics and Management, as well as other home management skills, under the sponsorship of her GOD Parents, Rev & Dr.(Mrs) M.P. Foster, British nationals of blessed memory. She later utilised these skills in setting up a sewing Institute and a Home Management school at Obalende Lagos to prepare young girls and ladies for the marriage institution.
Com, as she was fondly called by her husband, married to her amiable husband, Davidson Okonkwo Chime(a.k.a. Capt. Joel) of Umuchime Ward, Ekenene Village in Udi Town in 1946.  They were blessed with eight (8)children, out of which four(4) are surviving Ezinne. Looking back from her current abode, Ezinne will be very happy to see a very robust Family Tree she left behind comprising: four(4) Children; twenty(20) Grand Children and twenty(20) Great-Grand Children.  She had lost her husband at a tender age during the Nigeria civil war, leaving her with the daunting and onerous task of fending for their lovely six(6) young children at the time of her hubby’s demise. She rose to the challenge of nurturing, training and raising the six(6) young children that the good Lord blessed her family with and remained a widow until her passing onto glory.
As a direct result of CU King’s beauty, grace, carriage, elegance and impeccable dress sense, she was popularly nick-named *“ASA”.* Mama was blessed with numerous non-biological children who were always welcome and they all found a welcoming home at 29 Onwudiwe Street,  Uwani, Enugu.
She remained a very dedicated Anglican all her life; actively participating and occupying leadership positions in the Women’s Guild and Mothers Union of the Church.  She was a Lay Reader and amongst the first set of Christ Church Uwani Enugu mothers to be invested as Ezinne, together with the likes of Mama Nwobodo, Mama Uba, Mrs FGN Okoye and her bestie for life, Ezinne Theresa Agu.
Ezinne was a quintessential and indefatigable mother, grand mother, great grand mother, sister, aunty, friend and a true and trusted ally.  She lived a life of love and dedication to GOD and concurrently to her nuclear and extended families.  Her policy and style was never to disturb or be a burden to anyone. And true to type, she kept to that style until she very peacefully passed away onto glory  in her sleep in the morning of Monday October 6, 2025, just and just four(4) days before her 99th birthday.  then, six(6) young children.  We have really lost our anchor in the storms of life.  We love you Mama, but your GOD loves you more.  Sleep on Ezinne in the bosom of the LORD, until the Resurrection, when we will meet to part no more!
